Salt Kettle Rest Area
I-74 Westbound
The Salt Kettle Rest Area is accessible from the westbound lands of I-74 between Danville and Oakwood. The grounds are near the original pioneer salt mines. A monument stands at the site in honor of the first area of industry.

Kickapoo State Park

Kickapoo State Park offers 2842 acres for families to enjoy. The site shows how old strip mines can be reclaimed for recreational use. There are 22 deep-water ponds for fishing and boating, as well as access to the Middle Fork River.

Harry "Babe" Woodyard State Natural Area
10906 Kickapoo Park Rd.
The Woodyard area, named after a late state legislator, is the county's newest park. Its 1043 acres is home to more than a dozen species of theatened or endangered plants and animals. It is located three miles east of Georgetown.

Middle Fork State Fish & Wildlife Area

The Middle Fork area covers 3015 acres north of Oakwood. It features many campsites, including equestrian sites and trails, hunting and fishing. The Middle Fork Natural Scenic River runs through the area.

Harry "Babe" Woodyard State Natural Area - Oakwood

This area encompasses 2.2 miles of the Little Vermilion River, listed as a significant stream because of its aquatic features. The site supports 12 state endangered or threatened species and provides habitat for 23 forest interior species.

Kickapoo State Park - Oakwood

This park was the first in the country to be built on strip-mined land. Although it offers scuba diving, its true claim to fame is as an angler's paradise. The park also offers many types of camping.

Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area

Canoeing is popular along the river's length, which winds through a mixture of forests and prairies. Forest and upland game hunting are also popular at the 2,700-acre site. Horseback riding on 35 miles of trails is available.
